A Goodbody health MOT is the ideal opportunity to have an overall health check with a trained, experienced clinician.
Using our rapid, in-clinic analyser, we will test a small sample of blood from your finger to check your Cholesterol and Blood Sugar (HbA1C) Levels.
We will also analyse your height, weight, BMI, smoking status, exercise levels, blood pressure and family history to give you a full picture of your general health.
From your results, you can see whether you are at increased risk of health problems such as Diabetes, Heart Disease, Stroke, Vascular Dementia and more.
Using a well-established, medically-developed algorithm we will determine your Risk Score for developing Cardiac Health problems within the next 10 years.
This is the same cardiovascular disease risk score used across the NHS since 2009.
You will be provided with a record of your results so that you can see if your results change over time, with repeat tests recommended at least once per year.
You are required to fast 8-12 hours before your test.
Please note – whilst this appointment is available and suitable for all customers aged 18+ to check their general health, the Risk Score calculation is only medically recommended if you are aged between 25 and 84 years and have not previously had a heart attack, angina, stroke or transient ischaemic attack.

Type 2 diabetes is a highly prevalent disease and comes with life changing side effects such as damage to your nerves, heart disease, stroke, vision loss, foot problems, miscarriage and kidney problems.
Up to 33% of people in the UK live with prediabetes, when the blood sugar level is higher than normal but not enough for a Diabetes diagnosis, putting them at high risk of developing full Type 2 diabetes.
Blood tests can check your blood glucose levels to understand the average level of sugar in your blood over the past 3 months and determine whether you may have or be at risk of having diabetes or prediabetes.

Cholesterol plays an important role in the general function of the body, however too much can increase your risk of stroke or heart attack. Blood tests to check your levels of good or bad cholesterol can check levels within the blood and identify risks to your health.
For example, LDL cholesterol can lead to fatty deposits inside your arteries causing heart disease, heart attack and stroke, whilst the HDL molecule transports cholesterol and fatty deposits out of the blood stream to the liver, to be broken down and removed – meaning you should be aiming for low LDL and high HDL overall.
Having high cholesterol produces no initial symptoms so the only way to check your health is with a blood test. Cholesterol levels can be easily lowered by stopping smoking, improving your diet, doing more physical activity - but you need to know your levels first.

High blood pressure, or hypertension, rarely has noticeable symptoms but if left untreated can cause heart failure, strokes and heart attacks.
Meanwhile low blood pressure, or hypotension, can cause frequent dizziness, fatigue, confusion and feeling weak. Fainting can be common, which could cause you to fall or trip, leading to more damage such as head injuries or bone fractures, especially in older people.

The Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measure that uses your height and weight to work out if your weight is healthy.
For most adults, an ideal BMI is in the 18.5 to 24.9 range.
BMI takes into account natural variations in body shape, giving a healthy weight range for a particular height.
As well as measuring your BMI, healthcare professionals may take other factors into account when assessing if you're a healthy weight.
Muscle is much denser than fat, so very muscular people, such as rugby players, weight trainers and athletes, may be a healthy weight even though their BMI is classed as obese.
