Hearing loss, ear ache and fullness or discomfort in your ears could be a sign that you have ear wax blockages or build up.
Having ear wax removed is a simple but important treatment that can not only improve your hearing but also your overall ear health and your wider wellbeing.
In the UK, it is estimated that 2.3 million people each year have problems with earwax that are sufficient to warrant intervention (NICE, 2018).
Your ears are self-cleaning, which means that if they produce normal levels of ear wax, you shouldn’t need to get it removed at all.
However, if they produce too much wax it can build up and become impacted, blocking your ear canal.
This often leads to problems such as loss of hearing, ear pain, feelings of fullness or blockage and even tinnitus, a ringing in your ears.
In 2020 it was announced that the NHS would no longer offer ear wax removal for free as a core service at GP surgeries or hospitals.
In most instances you will not be able to have wax removed at your GP surgery.
You will need to visit a private provider, like Goodbody, for an appointment.
